- Privilege Leave (PL) or Earned Leave (EL)-Privilege leave is also called Earned Leave because you 'earn' these leaves for days worked. The EL leave type is typically used for personal reasons such as vacation, to observe festivals that are not declared holidays, etc.
- Casual Leave (CL)-Some companies also provide a leave type called Casual Leave. Such leaves accommodate any urgent/ unforeseen personal requirements as against EL being planned leaves.
- Sick Leave (SL)-Sick Leave is also called Medical Leaves (ML), these are provided on the grounds of sickness or in case of accidents.
- Maternity Leave (ML)-Maternity Benefit Act of 1961 requires that employers have to provide 26 weeks of paid leave to any woman who has worked for at least 80 days in the 12 months preceding the expected delivery date.
- Compensatory Off (Comp-off)-If an employee has to work on a weekend or a holiday due to the priority of the deliverables, they are offered a compensatory off on any other workday.
- Bereavement Leave-Bereavement Leave is a leave type granted when there is a death in the family or losing a loved one. This leave is for participating in the last rites or funeral services, taking care of any personal matters, and most importantly, to grieve.
- Loss of Pay (LOP) / Leave Without Pay (LWP)-There are cases when an employee has exhausted all leave balance but still requires time-off for some exigency. In such situations, companies allow them to go on leave without pay (LWP). Since there is a loss of income (LOP) when an employee avails of this type of leave, it's also called LOP leave.
- Code: Code for the Leave Type. (For eg: CL, PL, SL, LOP, etc)
- Name: Name for the Leave type. (For eg: Casual Leave, Privilege Leave, Sick Leave, Loss of Pay, etc)
- Type: The leave types may be categorized as Working Day, Paid Leave, Loss of pay, etc.
- Is Balance Maintained?: Enter if balance tracking is required for this type of leave. Normally most of the leave types will be credited to an employee and when she avails the leave, it will be reduced from the balance. By selecting this option, the system will maintain the leave balance for this type for each employee.
- Is Encashable?: Specify if any balance (Unavailed) leaves of this type, at the end of the period it can be paid as money.
- Is Carried Over?: Some of the leave type balances at the end of the period are permitted to carry across to next year. If for this leave type it is allowed, you can mark it as Yes.
- Credit Method: The credit of leave to an employee may happen as per the organization's policy. The following methods are supported in GoodBooks.
- Fixed-The leave credit to employees will be done per year. E.g. 12 Casual leave per year.
- Credit-The leave credit to employees will be done in a separate transaction. This may be done at any time as per the policy and requirements of the organization.
- Per Month-The leaves credit to employees will be done for a month. The credit will be done only at the month's start. E.g. 1 Casual leave per month.
- Workdays Based- The leave credit to employees will be done based on the number of days she has worked. E.g. 1 Casual leave for 24 days of working.
- Between Holidays: When an employee takes a long leave, there may be a declared holiday in between. The number of days of leave may vary depending on whether or not the holiday is taken as leave or holiday.
- For eg: if an employee takes leave from 7th to 15th and 1oth is a declared holiday. Depending on the setting here, the number of leave calculated maybe 8 or 9.
- Previous/Next Days Working Condition: Organizations may have a policy of permitting Declared holidays to employees who have worked in the previous and next days. This policy can be set here.
- For eg: If the 10th is a paid holiday, it may be permitted only to employees who have worked on the 9th and 11th. For others (who were on leave on 9 or 11th) the paid holiday may not be considered.
- Leave Salary (%): When salary for leave days is calculated (Paid Leaves only), the % of salary paid may be set. Some leave are paid at half the salary (50%) etc. The default is 100% meaning full salary will be paid. This % can be changed as per the organization policy.
