What is a Parent Task?

Parent – The field “Parent “refers to the Parent task for the task type selected in the field “Type”

Any new task to be created is called a Child Task and it can be of the following types- Milestone, Heading, Work, or Task. This task type is what is selected in the field Type

For every child task to be created a parent task should have already been created  and approved and that will get loaded in the field “Parent “

.

Based on the task type selected in the Type field the respective Parent tasks will get loaded in the Parent field which means 

1. When you create a task and you select the task Type as Task, the already created & approved works get loaded in the Parent and you have to select the relevant  Work from the picklist 

2. When you create a work and you select the task Type as Work, the already created & approved Headings get loaded in the Parent and you have to select the relevant Heading from the picklist.

3. When you create a Heading and you select the task Type as Heading, the already created & approved Milestones will get loaded in the Parent and you have to select the relevant Milestone from the picklist.

4. When you create a Milestone and you select the task Type as Milestone NONE gets loaded in the Parent and you have to select only NONE.

For any project, the tasks are created only in the following Hierarchy.

• Milestone
• Heading
• Work
• Task
